Alastair Penman is a much sought after saxophonist and clarinettist and a recent graduate of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. Alastair has performed extensively in both the UK and abroad at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall, The Rudolfinum (Prague), La Madelaine (Paris) and London, Montreux and Tarrega Jazz Festivals for audiences such as HM The Queen, Sir Steve Redgrave and Stephen Hawking. He has had the pleasure of working under conductors including Sir Roger Norrington, Dimitry Sitkovetsky, Baldur Bronnimann, David Hill, Peter Stark, Stephen Cleobury and many others and with jazz stars such as Steve Waterman, Mike Gibbs, Mark Nightingale, Gareth Lockrane and Issie Barratt

Notable posts Alastair has held include principal saxophonist with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, Cambridge University Chamber, Symphony and Jazz Orchestras and clarinettist with the Cambridge University Music Society 1st Orchestra, Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, The Beethoven Ensemble and Cambridge Touring Opera. Alastair also leads and performs with numerous jazz combos.

Recent solo recital performances in Cambridge have included venues such as Trinity and St Catharine's College Chapels, Selwyn College Hall and the Bateman Auditorium and as part of the series of Kellaway Concerts at St Catharine's College.

Alastair has recently accepted a scholarship to study a postgraduate course at the Royal Northern College of Music with Rob Buckland, also receiving tuition from Andy Scott, Mike Hall, Julian Arguelles and Tim Garland. His studies are kindly supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
